As a remote island Tenerife has learned the importance of protecting and recycling but some local councillors are more forward thinking than others. Arona municipality covers many of the most popular tourist zones such as Los Cristianos and part of Playa de Las Americas but also extends inland to small traditional villages and towns in the hills. The councils new initiative, Eco Punto Movil collection points cover a wide range of both areas.

The new mobile units call at different places on a mainly weekly basis for the collection of reusable rubbish items such as plastic, electrical, batteries, and oil. The pioneering service should help to prevent illegal dumping and save money for the council.

Weekly collections are at

Monday - Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos

Tuesday – Parque de la Reina – Every 2 weeks Guaza, Chayofa

Wednesday – El Fraile, Las Galletas

Thursday – Los Cristianos, Cabo Blanco

Friday – Arona, La Camella – Every 2 weeks Costa del Silencio

Saturday – Buzanada,Valle San Lorenzo

The 12 seperate compartments ensure that everything is kept seperate so it can be taken back to the depot and easily recycled. Tenerife is such a beautiful island it’s good to see our politicians intend to keep it that way. Crossley, Morfitt & Lennox are pleased to add green living to the list of attractions that Tenerife can offer.

Always welcoming to visitors, Los Cristianos is ready to roll out the gang plank to cruise liners from November 2012. It’s a fitting development for the fishing village that grew to become a holiday resort that is popular with many different nationalities.

Sea Cloud, a majestic four mast yacht built in 1931 will be the first cruise ship to call on 10th November as part of a voyage from Cadiz in mainland Spain to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. The same ship will make a quick return on 16th November as part of a circular tour starting and ending in Las Palmas, and sister ship Sea Cloud 2 will pop in on 18 November on the way from Funchal near Portugal to Las Palmas.

It’s a modest start as the ships carry 100 passengers and an equal number of crew, more ships with more visitors will follow. Sea Cloud will moor just outside Los Cristianos and passengers will be brought to shore in special launches during their stay from 4pm to midnight.

It will be a great boost for local business’s and compliment the existing steady flow of ferries that link the seven Canary Islands. The transformation of Los Cristianos from a fishing port to a holiday resort was prompted 50 years ago by Scandinavian visitors who came to recover from illness in the warm embrace of Tenerife’s all year round temperate climate. Crossley, Morfitt & Lennox haven a wide selection of apartments, homes and business’s in and around Los Cristianos and multi lingual staff to ensure everyone gets the best advice and help possible when re-locating to Tenerife.

Once you have decided to buy a home in Tenerife there is the tough task of finding one which will best suit your needs. Crossley Morfitt & Lennox have a wealth of experience and knowledge and are happy to guide you towards your final choice. Here are three contrasting properties to give you a good starting point.

ADEJE GOLF – 850,000 euros.

This four bed villa is on one of Tenerife’s top championship golf courses. On one side of your home patio doors open up onto a relaxing terrace that looks out over the course to the Atlantic beyond with a clear run to the island of La Gomera.

The huge lounge is another plus, a hi tech open plan kitchen and a guest suite with separate entrance, and a guest bedroom and study upstairs all add to the appeal. Adeje golf is between the old town and the modern upmarket hotel resorts at the coast below. At 850,000 euros it’s great value for money. For full details and a selection of photos follow this link.

Â

 ROQUE DEL CONDE –1,445,000 euros.

This five double bedroom (four en suite) villa set in landscaped gardens overlooks the busy resorts of south Tenerife. Terraces and balconies make the most of the elevated sedate setting and the quality and layout of the kitchen, pantry, and laundry rooms ensure day to day comfort and quality of life.

The pool is always welcoming, and with a four car garage it’s a great base to easily access the main transport links. Roque Del Conde is a much sought after area and for just 1,445,000 euros you can embrace luxury in the perfect setting. For full details and a selection of photos follow this link.

ARONA –365,000 euros

Steeped in history and revived as a labour of love complete with original 200 year old features like beamed ceilings and a cobbled courtyard but located just 10 kms from Los Cristianos and the coastal tourist zone. The feeling of tradition and space come together in an open plan living area design with an ornate staircase linking to a galleried upper level.

Genuine Canarian character doesn’t come at the expense of comfort in this four bedroom, two bathroom house. The master bedroom boasts a walk in wardrobe and an en suite bathroom with shower and bath. A small independent outhouse is waiting for you to transform it into a playroom, office, or guest room.

It ‘s great value at 365,000 euros, for full details and a selection of photos follow this link.

These three properties represent a range of different locations and prices but Crossley, Morfitt & Lennox have many more and all with a comprehensive back up service. Contact one of our offices and we can answer your questions and arrange for you to see your dream home become a reality.

Always flying high as a holiday destination, Tenerife has much more to offer, that’s good news if you are planning to re-locate or invest in a business or new way of life. The Guardian newspaper has scoured the world for the best cities to live in and Tenerife capital Santa Cruz, just an hours drive from the southern tourist beaches, sits proudly in the top five.

One of the big attractions of Tenerife is the variety, Crossley, Morfitt & Lennox have a proven history of matching buyers with their needs whether they be coastal comfort or a rural retreat. You can pretty much take the beaches, great weather, and relaxed pace of life as a standard in Tenerife but at some time you will want big city shopping, business links, and transport and Santa Cruz has them all balanced nicely with a sense of tradition and a respect for culture.

Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje, and Playa de Las Americas are popular places to set up home but it’s good to know that a short hop will link you to Santa Cruz, a major port for cruise liners, that has a wide choice of nightlife and a long haul airport nearby. February and March sees Carnaval fever hit the capital city, and in May 2012 a major three day music festival will light up the port quayside. Tenerife was always a pivotal point on sailing trade routes, now it’s on the world map as a great place to live.

There’s always another party in Tenerife and they don’t come much bigger and brasher then Carnaval. Santa Cruz lights the blue touch paper and ignites a series of wild and colourful regional celebrations, all with a yearly theme vaguely kept in mind. Music and dancing lead the way but mix in some rebellious defiance, fancy dress, and even some cross dressing and you are getting a feel of what makes Carnaval time so special.

Look out for the Murgas, they are satirical groups in bright costumes playing kazoo like instruments, their lyrics are always pretty scathing and no one escapes their dark humour, especially the local politicians and councillors. Then there’s the Carnaval Queens, the children, the oldies, and the young adults all have their own competition with selections and parades before the grand final. The sardine funeral is another highlight, wailing widows (mainly men) in black throwing themselves to the floor in mock anguish as they follow a huge mocked up sardine carried through the streets to be burnt amid a burst of fireworks. This is a defiant gesture to leaders of the catholic church who ate heartily during lent while the people had to scrabble for sardines from the sea.

SANTA CRUZ – The main events are

Fri 10th February – Murgas Final at Heliodoro Stadium from 8.30pm.

Weds 15th February – Election Carnaval Queen at Recinto Ferial from 9pm.

Fri 17th February – Cabalgata Parade from 7pm.

Tues 21st February – Coso Parade from 4pm.

Weds 22nd February – Sardine Funeral from 9pm

Sat 25th February – Daytime Carnaval from 1pm

LOS GIGANTES – 2012 is a Tropical theme from 1st to 5th March. Sunday 4th is the big afternoon parade, and the happiest funeral you will ever see brings the curtain down the next day.

LOS CRISTIANOS – No theme has been announced but it’s all very informal, just dress for fun. This year it runs from 3 to 12th March, the big street parade is on Sunday 11th and despite recent attempts to scrap the sardine funeral, nothing will stop it on Monday 12th.

Everyone is invited to join in at Carnaval, from tapping your feet to the music to a full scale costume explosion and dancing through the night. People plan their holidays every year to fit in with Carnaval and once you buy your property in Tenerife you are investing in a culture and a way of life as well as beautiful weather and amazing landscapes. See you at the party.

It may not be the traditional christmas scene, blue skies, sandy beaches and warm sun, but it’s just part of the attraction of a Tenerife christmas. But when it comes to celebrating the festive season there really is something for all ages and nationalities as Tenerife pulls out all the stops. The big bonus is the second christmas Reyes on January 6, epiphany is the religious name, it refers to the arrival of the three wise men with gifts for the baby Jesus.

It looks like this will be one of the busiest holiday seasons for many years in Tenerife and public plazas, iconic buildings and even palm trees have all been spruced up with colour, lights and glitter. The poinsettia is the christmas flower and pops up everywhere with its cheery yellow and red leaves. Up north the capital Santa Cruz can compete with any big city for department stores and fashion shopping although many find the street fairs and late night regional shopping much more in keeping with the spirit of christmas.

The religious roots of christmas are much more obvious in Tenerife, many shops and public buildings have their own nativity scenes or belens on display. It’s at time like this that you really appreciate the warmth and welcome of Tenerife life, Los Cristianos beach will become a focal point for New Years Eve celebrations, further inland Adeje town will be buzzing around the church plaza. Firework displays are always impressive here but New Years Eve they are stunning and go on for quite some time.

It’s very much a family time with Christmas and New years Eve two of the big times for Canarian family meals. Christmas and New Years Day will see most shops open and even public buses running, no need to be trapped indoors with the turkey leftovers. Reyes Eve sees the arrival of the Three Kings, a magical night for families with everyone welcome to greet the wise men as they ride through the streets.

Have a wonderful Christmas, New Year, and Reyes from everyone at Crossley, Morfitt & Lennox maybe your resolution for next year will be to make that move to Tenerife, pop in and see us we can find that perfect home for you.

Sunshine and beaches are the most obvious and popular attractions of Tenerife living but the island is so diverse it can cater for all needs. The relatively small size of Tenerife means you are never far away from busy resorts, vibrant nightlife and hubs of shopping and business but by looking a little inland you can find idyllic villages and small communities at amazingly cheap prices.

Crossley Morfitt & Lennox know Tenerife inside out and have a large range of rural properties in wonderful settings. For example Arico just up the east coast is in easy touching distance of Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas and is also a short drive from the capital Santa Cruz in the north. Arico stretches up from the rugged coast to delightful villages like La Sabinita, a gateway to many of the enjoyable hill walks. Life in these areas is very relaxed and friendly and you will soon become part of the community, for families with children it’s a great way to integrate the youngsters as they learn the language and customs.

Property prices are not the only financial bonus with rural living, local shops tend to be cheaper and eating out is a real eye opener with locally sourced food and drink used to make large servings of Canarian cuisine at amazing prices. Maybe you want to start from scratch, many old neglected properties can be your starting point to put your own mark on your new home, or you could go a stage further and buy a plot of land, Crossley Morfitt & Lennox have several on their books. Pop in to our offices or browse through the website to consider a different and rewarding option to re-locating and investing in Tenerife property.

In these competitive times in the holiday industry it’s good to have an edge to lure potential visitors. Full marks to Las Galletas for recognising the potential of its diving expertise, exciting stretch of unspoilt rugged coast, and a fabulous modern marina. The delightful traditional fishing village just a short hop from Los Cristianos intends to become the diving capital of Tenerife.

Plans have already been drawn up in conjunction with Arona council to promote the wonders of the deep at forthcoming tourism fairs. One of the biggest is WTM – the World Travel Market in London from 7 to 10 November, all the big players from the travel industry will be there and Las Galletas will be looking to reel them in. That’s followed by FITUR in Madrid from 18 to 22 January where more big fish will be looking at the big trends for 2012.

The travel movers and shakers are just one target, Las Galletas is also featured in a 3D short promotional film made for cinemas in France, Germany and Russia. Many holiday makers have gone on to settle in Las Galletas, it combines a traditional Canarian feel with easy access to the big southern resorts Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas just along the coast. Have a look at some of the properties available from Crossley Morfitt & Lennox and you will soon be hooked.
